Down in Louisiana

I have been in Louisiana for the past week spending time with friends before I head to camp on June 1.

I first visited Shreveport and hung out with my college friends. This included playing in fountains downtown, shopping at Goodwill (where I bought some pretty awesome suspenders), and eating a lot of crawfish. My friend Robert decided to have a crawfish boil before he leaves for the summer to go to Juneau, AK on Summer Project,  and it happened to be while I was in town. I was not very good at peeling crawfish at the start, but by the end I had it down to an art.

Then I went down to Lake Charles to see friends that used to work at camp with me. We randomly bought Bingo at Wal*Mart one night and played that, went to a cajun restaurant, and spent a lot of time just hanging out and catching up. While we were at Aucoin's (the cajun restaurant in a tiny little town), there was a band playing and people dancing. My friends wanted me to get a chance to cajun dance, but there weren't many guys with us, so while I was in the bathroom my friends went up to an older man and asked him if he would dance with their friend who was from Arkansas. He said yes, so when I got back to the table they told me they found someone who would dance with me. I told the man I had no idea what I was doing, and his response was, "All you have to do is kick your legs and shake your butt." I don't think I did it right, but it was an adventure anyway. Oh, and I tried fried alligator for the first time, and really liked it. I am not kidding when I say that it tastes exactly like chicken.

Now that I have two weeks of nothing planned, hopefully I will be able to read for fun, work on sewing projects, and maybe even write a little. We will see.
