They say to write what you know...

My latest assignment for Creative Writing I was to write a 3 page scene consisting mostly of dialogue. When we workshopped it, one of the only negative things that someone said was that it seemed to be pushing some sort of message (not necessarily Christian - more of a 'moral to the story'). But that's the kind of writing I want to do. So I will have to watch it in class, I guess.

It's interesting, listening to comments from other people. I have started to learn some peoples' writing styles as well as their preferred reading style, and I know which people to brace myself for during workshop comments. Some people could criticize anything! But I guess you just pick through what everyone says and decide what to actually listen to.

For almost every assignment, people have said that my writing it very realistic: the characters, the plot, etc. Wanna know why? Because I base it all off of my experiences or people I know. Is that okay, if a lot of my stories are based on real life?
