I'm Hungry

"Peter, however, got up and ran to the tomb. Bending over, he saw the strips of linen lying by themselves, and he went away, wondering to himself what had happened."
[Luke 24:12]

The other disciples heard the story that Jesus' body was not in the tomb, and they didn't believe. Peter, on the other hand, got up and had to go see for himself. I can just see him sprinting towards the open "door" (what else would you call it? a hole that the stone had covered?) and having to lean against the wall, out of breath, as he stared at the empty slab that Jesus had laid on.

Peter was eager - he was hungry to see what God had done.

Noel and I were talking about hunger the other day, in context of Matthew 5:6
"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled."

We talked about how, when you are hungry, you know that you have a need for food and you want to fill that need. When I am hungry in class, it consumes my thoughts and I can't focus until I have something in my stomach. In the same way, we should hunger for Christ and for righteousness (personal right living; seeing God change us as well as those around us). We have to first know that we need God, and we have to know that something needs to be done about it. This hunger is important: it develops a passion and allows God room to work. If your heart is already desiring change, you will be able to get through the tough places in life because you will see them as opportunities and a chance for growth.

My desire is to be hungry for God and His work in my life in such a way that my thoughts are consumed with Him. I want to constantly be asking God to change me, not to keep me at a comfortable place. I want to be like Peter - I want to run to what Christ is doing, and I want to be a part of the people who are amazed.
