Good-bye, October

I can't believe October is over after tomorrow! This month has passed by so quickly - it is my favorite month of the year. This week was supposed to be the "peak" of fall colors, so I decided to take a walk and take a few pictures. Northwest Arkansas is absolutely beautiful, and it's so hard to capture on camera, so this is the best that I could do. The first picture is of a yard that I pass every day on my way to and from school... so on Tuesday I stopped on the side of the road and took a picture because it was so beautiful!

I know I had a shot of this posted last year, but this street by Wilson Park is always one of my favorite spots:

This is a shot of Old Main Lawn on campus: UA is so beautiful!

Southern Food Day
One of the reasons I love living in the South is the food. Yesterday I randomly ended up having a day of amazing Southern foods. Breakfast: shrimp and grits. I honestly was repulsed by this at first, but it wasn't bad! Lunch: Bar-b-que and fried pickles at Penguin Ed's. Oh my goodness, was it wonderful! Then, for dinner, black-eyed peas and salt pork (my first meal in a crock pot!) and cornbread (baked by my best friend Noel). All that was missing was a cobbler or something.

Halloween
So, growing up, I never went trick-or-treating. My parents were really conservative; the year that I my parents decided that it was really okay, I had plans to help out with our church's harvest party for the kids, so I got home that night and saw all of my brother's and sister's candy and was upset. Every year now, at Halloween, we always have costume parties to go to, and coming up with a costume is the hardest thing. This year, I have two parties: one tonight, at which I am dressing up sort of like a nerd. Basically, I wanted to wear the pair of suspenders and the funny glasses that I have. Then, tomorrow night, we are having a party at our house, and I am going to be a ballerina. Not because I always wanted to be one, but because I tried to take ballet last year and was so bad that my teacher never knew what to say to me. My friends would ask me to practice for them and just laugh at me, so they told me they wanted me to dress up as that for Halloween. It will be funny to be a character that is totally NOT me.

More Adventures in Being an English Major
In my Modern British Literature class, we were reading poetry by Seamus Heaney, and he wrote one of my new favorite poetry lines in his poem "Station Island": "The main thing is to write for the joy of it." How wonderful is that line?

Friends
And, to end this update, I wanted to include a clip from "Friends." Since we don't have cable, we watch seasons of different TV shows on DVD, and we have seasons 7-10 on DVD. This is one of my favorite Joey quotes.

That Heaney line is gorgeous! I'd never heard it before. And your fall pictures are stunning! Bright leaves on black pavement is one of my most favorite combinations :)
