Going Grandma

Current music favorite: Dave Barnes. I am obsessed with his song "Until You," for starters, but I really enjoy his CD Chasing Mississippi.

First announcement: I now have internet at my house! And another couch in the living room! And back patio table and chairs! And one roommate! Sarah got here last Thursday, and it has been really fun bonding over the past few days. She is a year younger than me and this is her first semester here because she transferred from Louisiana. Her older brother is one of my really good guy friends, so I met her through him, but we hadn't had a ton of time together before we became roommates, so it has been really good to spend time with her. We have ridden on the bike path that goes across town and cooked dinner and hammocked at the park. It's been wonderful. Our other roommate, Kristen, won't be here until Friday (a week later than expected)... which also means that our TV and kitchen table and kitchen utensils and kitchen pots and so on won't be here until then. It has been challenging figuring out how to make things work in the kitchen without most of the things we need, but it has been an adventure.

Secondly, I have now been through a week straight of Cru staff meetings, and of course I am getting excited about this school year, especially my role in helping lead the women's movement. I am starting to pray through and plan my discipleship time I will have with one of the girls from my community group in the dorm last year, and I will continue to lead that study as well. One of the most fun things about staff, though, is the fact that my best friend Noel is also on student staff! And it means I get to spend more time with Marisa, whose friendship has really blessed me over the past year. And Crusade sometimes pays for our dinner, which is always a plus for a broke college student... :)

Yesterday, I got the sudden urge to go to Hobby Lobby... which is never good news for my empty wallet. But thankfully the project I had in mind was very cheap - I wanted to embroider! Embroidery floss is only like 35 cents per skein (not sure if that is the right word, but it works for yarn!), so I bought some and a little bit of cheap fabric and TA DAAAA I have a cute little throw pillow for my bed! It helped that I happened to have the pillow from something in high school so I just took the case off of it and made a new one. I was trying to embroider dandelions, the kind that you make a wish on and then blow away. You can judge how well I accomplished that.

I also went a little further and embroidered a white v-neck as well. V-necks have become my staple clothing of choice, and I particularly have a lot of white ones (just in case a tie dye party occurs, or an idea such as this one). I wanted it to be a daffodil, but it didn't quite turn out as expected - I still like it, though.

I definitely feel like a grandma, though, after spending two nights in a row embroidering. Oh well, I will just be really good at it by the time I get there!

Just scrolling through your pictures, I thought your pillow was from Target or Peir One. You do great embroidering! :) Glad your roomies are rolling in and college is about to start. I lead a freshman Bible study through Cru and it was one of the best things about college for me. I wasn't involved with leadership or anything like that, but I love the emphasis they have on discipleship. Hope you have a great start to your year :)
