Firstly, because it is one of my favorite places in Fayetteville.
Secondly, because I am sitting next to the big window and looking out at the snow. Yes, snow and it's almost April. It is not sticking, but it is really pretty with the layer of fog that is covering the hills.
Thirdly, because I am making great progress on this paper. (This is my first real break in the past three hours or so.)
Lastly, I am really enjoying this paper! I was excited to write it, and I am still enjoying it! Strange, I know, but I really like my topic that I chose. I am writing about Evelina by Frances Burney (I mentioned it a couple of months ago) and comparing it to the story of Cinderella - the original German version by the Grimm brothers, not the Disney version. There are many similarities between the two, and it is interesting because these similarities can be found in most other major love stories or fairy tales - a virtuous girl searching for her identity and living in a less-than-perfect family situation, a man who comes along who wants to protect her but the two are separated by class differences, a running away or fear of the situation, a time of waiting, and then the happily ever after.
I bet that I could further this topic and expand the paper (by a lot) for my honors thesis... which I will start working on next semester! This college thing is flying by...
P.S. Check out this quote from the book - it's when Lord Orville is confessing his love for Evelina. It makes my heart melt...
"I revere you! I esteem and I admire you above all human beings!—you are the friend to whom my soul is attached as to its better half! you are the most amiable, the most perfect of women! and you are dearer to me than language has the power of telling!"
