Slow, Slow, Quick, Quick.

Big band music played as men led women onto the dance floor. It felt like something from the '50s, and most of the people there probably did this in the '50s. Last night, I went to Bella Vista (mainly an elderly community in NWA) with a group of friends and we went ballroom dancing! There is nothing like the feeling of getting all dressed up (a rare occassion) and then being twirled around the dance floor. One of my guy friends grabbed me by the hand and led me into the middle of the dance floor, then taught me the foxtrot. You would think this would be scene from a daydream... unless you could read into my mind. I hope he doesn't notice that I have NO IDEA what I am doing. Slow, slow, quick, quick. Slow, slow, quick, quick. WHAT THE HECK?! I most definitely could not stay on rhythm or keep up with when to slow and when to quick and what direction to go! At one point, Adam looked at my facial expression (probably contorted and confused) and laughed at me. "You are just moving your feet in circles, aren't you?" I gave him the most pathetic puppy dog look and laughed and had to tell him yes. The only way I could keep up was if I looked down at his feet and watched them, which is not good for conversation, so thankfully he put up with me for the song (which seemed REALLY long) and just laughed at me. Good thing we were already friends before this, although I am not sure if he will want to dance with me again. :) Another guy tried to teach me the foxtrot, but we kept having to stop and he would count the beats out with his fingers on my back. I don't think he knew that I have no conception of rhythm and my deaf friend told me so - at a barn dance, I tried tapping out the beat on his shoulder and he told me I was wrong, then tapped out the correct beat.

All in all, it was a fun night. I can swing dance, to some extent, and I learned the waltz. But next time, when it's time to foxtrot, maybe I will just conveniently have to go to the bathroom.

That is very funny. Drinks lots of water before the next dance just in case...

Am I your first comment?
