wonderful weekend

All of women's project before the staff left. The other apartment of girls chipped in to buy us all matching bear shirts - so fun!

A NIGHT OUT! On Friday night, we got the opportunity to stay in one of the cabins at a Methodist camp where we have been doing volunteer work over the past month (the same one where I hung the yellow signs, mentioned a few posts back). The camp managers, Virgil and Lori, are so wonderful and so gracious! They are a joy to talk to and get to know, and are a really funny couple in general.

Virgil and Lori also invited us over that night to make salmon berry jam! Salmon berries are native to Alaska and absolutely delicious - and don't worry, they taste nothing like fish! We picked all our own berries, then smashed them and boiled them with sugar and pectin, then canned them all. We made nine jars, so we each get one to take home and then one extra jar per apartment, so I definitely ate some for breakfast this morning.

And Kelsie and I hung up our hammocks in the cabin instead of sleeping on mattresses. Duh.

TIE-DYE PARTY! Saturday night, we had about eight local Juneau girls over to our apartment (plus the seven of us Project girls) for a tie-dye party! It was a huge success and a lot of fun. After tie-dying, we played the game "four on a couch" (and, not to brag or anything, but my team won both times) and just spent quality time with each other. It was so refreshing and fun to have "girls' night" with awesome other women we have met this summer.

The staff women left Thursday morning, so now it's just the seven of us girls running Project! Each of us was given a leadership role, and it's been really neat to see each girl step into her position. Ashley and I are leading "Women's Development," which happens every Tuesday night. This has been one of my favorite nights of Project, and I am excited to have the opportunity to plan and lead it! Each week, we have a theme, and Tuesday nights are centered around apply that theme to our lives and developing those qualities in each other.

There are only four weeks left of this summer, which is bittersweet. I love the community I am around, and Alaska is gorgeous, but I am looking forward to returning to Fayetteville as well. However, God's not done here, yet, so I would appreciate your continued prayers for our influence here in Juneau!
