Eh?

I left Conway, Arkansas almost two weeks ago, and I have already learned so much! Some of this is random and goofy while some is serious, so bear with me as the mood changes, but these are some things that need to be shared.

1. Canada was everything I expected it would be. The mountains were beautiful. The majority of people I came into contact with spoke with a funny accent. (They really do say, "eh?" at the ends of sentences!) Also, I saw quite a few Dairy Queens, so I suppose even Canadians love the DQ Blizzard. And I don't quite know why, but they don't use words on the majority of their road signs. Driving through kind of felt like a big game of Canadian Pictionary. The following images are examples of some of the best signs I came across:

I love the detail in this one - there are so many falling rocks!

I am still unsure what animal I should be looking out for. Horses? A llama with a tail?

We always saw these right before we went over bridges, so I am assuming that's what it is referring to. On its own you might not be able to guess what it is supposed to be.

I love this sign. I am not sure why. I guess because in America we simply write that "bridge may ice in cold weather" but in Canada they took the time to post both of those symbols on the same sign.

2. A really fun road trip game is "My Cows." Whenever you drive past cows, the first person to claim them as "my cows" has cows. It doesn't matter how many, you just try to be the first to say "my cows." Then, whenever you see a McDonald's or the golden arches, the first person to say "Hamburger!" kills everyone's cows except their own, so in a sense they are winning because they have cows and no one else does. You play continuously and you don't really keep score so you don't have to think about it a lot. The two phrases interrupted our conversations so many times, and the game sounds silly, but it was actually really fun - especially if you were the first to spot a McDonald's and call "Hamburger!" and make everyone else mad.

3. Coming into this project, I knew some of the personal challenges I would be facing, but I didn't realize how quickly the issues would come up. Last night, I was really broken. My pride hit me smack in the face and made me want to curl up in a ball under the covers. However, instead of crying and complaining to God, I turned to the Word. Even though it brought even more conviction, it gave me confidence that I will be growing this summer in areas that I know are weaknesses in my life. I want to share some of the Scripture with you:

"Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility consider others more significant than yourselves." -Philippians 2:3 (really, Philippians 2:1-11)

"Listen to advice and accept instruction, that you may gain wisdom in the future." -Proverbs 19:20

"Do not put yourself forward in the king's presence or stand in the place of the great, for it is better to be told, 'Come up here,' than to be put lower in the presence of a noble." -Proverbs 25:6-7

"Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh?" -Galatians 3:3

It's going to be a good summer. Humbling. Challenging. But I don't plan on leaving as the same person I have been. Thank you for your support and prayers.
