I don't know how I grew up without this movie! Well, okay, maybe I do know. I didn't like very many movies at all; I had nightmares very easily (still do), so I didn't watch hardly anything with any suspense. I think that I appreciate it more today than I would have 10 years ago, though, having now read most of the literature that is woven into this story. I literally laughed out loud at the nod to "Gulliver's Travels" by having the little people shooting little arrows at the oversized book that was tied to the ground. So great. And the one-liners in the movie were really cute, as well.
I have written about this before, I am sure, but I love getting lost in a story. I mentioned Anne of Green Gables as a specific one, but I love literature in general. There is something so wonderful about sitting in my favorite chair with a blanket and candles flickering and an open book. Despite my outward tomboy nature, inwardly I love the idea of being a princess being rescued by a prince or a girl in disguise on a quest for something.
A couple of weeks ago, I was babysitting for the Foltz family, and Summer wanted to put on her nightgown. Well, the one she found to put on* was not your normal night gown - it had a multicolored multi-layered skirt like a fairy and was then dancing and spinning around in the living room. How I would love to find a nightgown like that in my size! And be able to just twirl and really make believe that I am in a different world!
So, if in my head, I want to be the character of a story and I love being lost in a good book, WHY CAN'T I WRITE MY OWN STORY FOR CREATIVE WRITING?
10-20 pages, due Thursday. Progress: none.
*I am not sure if was ACTUALLY a nightgown. But she was so happy in it, I let her keep it on.
