Only Two More Weeks...

Praises
  • The weather!! Camp 3 in June, I felt like I was going to melt. I had no idea how I would live in July when the weather is even worse... except it's not worse! This week, at the beginning of the week, it was 107 degrees, then we prayed for cooler weather and rain. PTL (Praise the Lord), it stormed Thursday and has been the most beautiful weather ever since. Next week, the lows are going to be in the 60s some nights, and in the 80s during the day. PTL to the max!
  • Weirdness works! So each cabin seems to have a personality that goes with it, and those are the types of campers that somehow get put in the cabin. For example, the Pintos are usually the ones that you have to talk to about modesty and are very girly. Percherons are very chill and relaxed. And so on. Arabians (my cabin) are the "unique" children, most of the time. Children who like to chase bugs or smash rocks into powder - and other such interesting qualities. Everyone jokes that the campers follow after the senior counselor (which is very true in the other cabins) but I was never really sure that it applied to me... until a couple of weeks ago, I found myself hunting daddy long legs ALONE in my cabin while my girls were all showering. I discovered that I AM THAT BUG COUNSELOR, but my weirdness works. My girls love it! They love that I am not afraid of bugs, and usually it helps them, too, since our cabin has a serious daddy long leg problem. I rarely get the girly ones that spend all of rest time putting on makeup, and even though my kids are strange and sometimes hard for other counselors to understand and connect with, I absolutely love them. When other counselors say something funny about one of my girls, I can respond, "Well, she's an Arabian!" and it makes sense.
  • My friendships on staff are growing even more than last summer. I am so blessed to be working with the people that I do. They are some of the most godly people that I know, and I love them. I have the most solid and encouraging friendships with the other counselors.

Prayer Requests
  • Continued beautiful weather
  • Energy!
  • Perseverance through two more weeks - not being tired of repetition is a main thing, because camp is the exact same every week but since the kids aren't, we have to try to see everything with new eyes
  • Focus on what is going on here. I have lately become more distracted because I am having to make arrangements for my house in Fayetteville and I am getting to talk to my friends from school, which is a great thing but God still has me here and I need to somewhat contain my excitement till it is time for it.
  • God to be working through me, not my flesh trying to do it on my own. It's hard to always find time to spend with God because I am so busy and if I am not busy I am beyond tired.
